Globe and Mail - End of an era

This year our National newspaper, the Globe and Mail has decided to stop delivering the paper to one of the provinces. My father inlaw gave us the subscription to the Globe.  I will miss doing the Crossword on Saturdays and of course all good things will come to an end.  Unfortunately I had such bad service from the subscription department that we are not even bothering to get it online.

Here is a video I shot of Liquorice getting the paper a few years back and then again today when the weather was better. I certainly appreciated her services in the middle of winter when I did not want to go out in the snow and the newspaper was left on the curb instead of at our doorstep.

Liquorice is getting on but still actively play with the pups, Bailey and Baloo and walks around Mundy Pond a few times per week.  Liquorice is ready to not retire her services yet, so we will have to practice retrieving with a dumbell instead.

New Title for Bailey and RBIS for Baloo

We are really proud to announce that Bailey has completed her RN title in Rally Obedience.  She is now Sweetspots Irish Cream RN with scores of 94, 89 and 91 out of 100.  She has a super confident independent attitude in the ring. Yesterday she was very interested in exploring the sights and sounds of the building between the signs.  She has learned well from our grand dam, Liquorice who used to do the same but went on to wonderful things.

Bailey also was in the ring with my daughter Fern who won her class in Jr. Novice. She is pictured here in the May shows.  Fern and Bailey have a real connection and Fern loves to show her.

Baloo - (Sweetspots Set Fire to Reign) won a Group 2nd under judge Jim Reynolds, and then a Reserve BIS under judge Sandra Lex. Thank you everyone for your comments on our boy Baloo. He is growing up so nicely and is pictured here on the beach at Salmon Cove two weekends ago. Congratulations to the competitors of Group Six and all the winners at the Newfoundland All-Breed KC shows today. It was very hot, but a lovely show.

Dog Days of Winter

This last weekend, we had more snow, and were stuck indoors.  My human kids decided to play Dogopoly which is actually more popular than Monopoly with the under 12 kids in the house.  We all had a laugh when Liza decided to join us at the table and then a photo opportunity was born.

Lucy Passes Canine Good Neighbour Test

Lucy - Sweetspots In the Sky with Diamonds - passed her Canine Good Neighbour Test (CGN).  This test administered by the Canadian Kennel Club and
"The test is non-competitive and allows dog and handler to demonstrate confidence and control in 12 steps. It assesses the handler and dog's relationship, together with the handler's ability to control the dog. Dogs are evaluated on their ability to perform basic exercises as well as their ability to demonstrate good manners in everyday situations."
To learn more about the CGN Test  click on this link. http://www.ckc.ca/en/Default.aspx?tabid=91

Lucy is just 6 months old and it is quite an accomplishment!  Congratulations to Ed and Maureen McNeil.

Lucy living the High Life

Here is Lucy who lives in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.  She is enjoying life to the fullest, Maureen and Ed says that Lucy is a "She a princess, a devil, a lady, a scamp all in one,"  I think that describes most Dalmatian puppies.

Silver Grand Champion!

Miley becomes a Silver Grand Champion - This weekend Miley - Sweetspot Hot2Spot Best of Both Worlds owned and handled by Laurie Isaacson became an AKC Silver Grand Champion.

With the use of the AKC Point Schedule once a dog achieves their championship they have the ability to earn a Grand Championship.   To receive the Bronze Grand Championship the dog requires 100 points, Silver a requires 200 points.

As you can see from the photo, Miley is more than just beauty and she competes in Dock Diving, Agility, and Obedience.

Nails

Today was nail day in the Sweetspot household.  I am pleased to say that the puppies all sat nicely and licked peanut butter off of a spoon while I did their nails.  I like to use a Dremel, but I also use a clippers on the young pups.  You never know when you have to use the clippers.  Here is Sweetspots Bel Canto and Sweetspots Groucho Marx getting her nails done, and she is quite content with the process.

Fun in the Garden

Today the neighbourhood kids came and played with the puppies and it was a hot summer day.  All the puppies played and played and now are sleeping soundly.  I helped my girls to dress up Green Girl in a dress and hat for a photo.  I think it suits her Sepia tones.

Temperament Testing

Today we did temperament tests on the puppies.  There were no surprises, and all the puppies were very confident and gave us another glimpse into their personalities.  It is just another piece of the puppy puzzle.

Here is a picture of them in the kennel sleeping together.  We have two large kennels for them to sleep in, but they always seem to pile into one.
